Lagna · the rising sign
Find your rising sign.
Your lagna is the sign that was rising on the eastern horizon at your birth. It changes roughly every two hours, so an exact time matters. It describes the style in which you meet the world — and the whole chart is built from it.
- Exact ascendant degree
- Lagna nakshatra and lord
- First-house planets

Use the birth time on your certificate if you have it.
Why birth time changes everything
The rising sign moves through all twelve signs in a day. A birth time that is forty minutes out can move the ascendant, the house cusps and every planetary house placement. This is why Vedic astrology asks for a time, not just a date.
If your time is unknown, AstroYoda uses noon and clearly labels the chart as time-sensitive. Treat the rising sign in that case as provisional.
The rising sign describes the interface; the Moon describes the inner weather. Many people relate more immediately to their Moon, then discover the lagna over time.
